NI developed a website that allowed a broader market to pursue and purchase Ed Risak’s unique raku pottery pieces online. In the first 6 months every piece on the site was sold!

Ed and Julie Risak are the owners of Risak Pottery Studio, located at Presque Isle Station in Marquette, Michigan. This husband and wife team work together to produce unique handmade raku and low temperature fired pottery. They specialize in one of a kind ceramic vessels, covered jars, wall art and teapots.

Risak Pottery has been selling their artwork for more than twenty years, mainly through their local studio, high-end art fairs and at select studios. In 2009, Risak Pottery turned to Northern Initiatives and their Business Advancement Center for help in reaching new markets through e-commerce. Their previous website was static and was not yielding any sales, so NI developed a website that allowed a broader market to peruse and purchase their unique raku pottery pieces online.

In the first 6 months every pottery piece on the site was sold, with pieces ranging in price from $50 – $450. Risak Pottery has seen an increase in traffic to their studio, which Ed has attributed 35-40% from visitor’s first finding them on the website. Ed has since declared, “In 5 years, this is the first time the studio is paying for itself even through a difficult economic time.”
